Dear Ziqi,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to the Graduate College for the Fall 2025 semester as a student in the Materials Science and Engineering-MS program. This letter is your official notice of admission.
This notice of admission is valid only for the Fall 2025 semester, requiring initial enrollment during this term.
You have been admitted on Limited Status. An explanation of your status follows:
You have been admitted to the Graduate College on Limited Status because of your English failing to our required level. You are asked to take the ESL Placement Test (EPT). This test is given by the Department of Linguistics. The results of this exam will determine whether you will be required to enroll in English as a Second Language course(s), which may reduce the number of academic courses you will be allowed to take. Please note that you must be registered for the ESL Placement Test (EPT) before you can register for your academic courses, and EPT test results must be available before ESL course registration is allowed. The conditions of this Limited Status admission, including passing all required English as a Second Language coursework, must be met in order for your degree to be awarded. Please contact your program office for specific information regarding this condition of admission. Information regarding the ESL Placement Test (EPT) requirement, including contact information and online registration, may be found at http://www.linguistics.illinois.edu/students/placement/.
To complete your admission, you must submit final, official academic credentials from the institution(s) below within one month of the start of the semester to the Graduate College:

From acting as Ethan Hunt in the Mission Impossible films to Top Gun as “Maverick”, Tom Cruise has always known the difference a team makes. Now, the Hollywood superstar has told young actors to attach importance to teamwork on set and to understand the work of those behind the scenes who help make movie magic.
Speaking in central London on Monday as he received a British Film Institute fellowship, he criticized film schools for failing to teach young actors about the tools that help them command the screen and spoke highly of Hollywood legends Jack Nicholson and Marlon Brando for understanding the varying elements of the art form. He said: “It is important to understand the tools around you. There is tech. It is like understanding the stage as an actor but for a lot of artists it is not taught in film school: how to understand the lens (镜头) and what it can do, and why there is eye movement.”
Cruise, 62, said that after scoring his breakout role as Joel Goodson in Risky Business in 1983, which went on to be a box-office and critical smash, he used that success to reach an agreement with the producers of Top Gun to gain more of a say in the film-making process. “They had to allow me into every production meeting and to see every aspect behind the scenes,” he said. “This is when I started to get more creative controls.”
Cruise also mentioned working with people who “didn’t know how to make movies”, mentioning his experience starring in the critical and financial failure Losin’ It in 1982.
