Sometimes, the best gift you can give to pets in need is your time. So we’re happy that you’re interested in volunteering with Best Friends.
Volunteer Tasks You Can Choose
Foster Program: If you love pets, you can join in our foster (助养) program. You can choose what type of animal you foster. Best Friends provides all veterinary care (兽医护理) for free. The only thing you need to provide is a loving environment for your foster pets, with basic daily care.
Spanish Translators: Spanish-speaking volunteers are supporting our efforts from home by translating our written materials into Spanish.
Lifesaving Center: It is now closed to the public because of COVLD-19. If you want to volunteer here when it reopens, please first create a volunteer profile and then view our Lifesaving Center Orientation. Borough Engagement Team: It is a great way for you to help from home! This team is looking to improve our connection with communities. With this team, we can offer information to communities we haven’t reached before.

We are what we eat. From high-calorie meals to low-fat lunches, much of our health depends on what we eat. We know about the benefits of eating fittingly for our physical health, but food, and cooking it, is proving to be good for our mental health as well.
Some people are now supporting the therapeutic value of cooking food. It’s not just about the end result but also the experience someone goes through. Dr Mark Salter, a consultant psychiatrist, told the BBC: “Baking and cooking are good therapies. They help patients develop planning skills, short-term memories and social skills — lack of which may lead to mental illness.”
TV chef (大厨) and author Nadiya Hussain agrees that cooking is great for helping our mind. She loves to bake and became the champion of the TV show, The Great British Bake Off. She says that “Baking’s always been about therapy… It’s never really been about the cake.” And she thinks that baking is an important tool for our socialization and mental health.
