Four Best Beach Spots in South Carolina
Morris Island
What was once a war fort (堡垒) is now an island without residents in the Charleston Harbor marked by the state’s tallest lighthouse. Today, this island is only accessible by boat. While boat rentals are available, it is highly recommended that visitors book one of the tours that will take you to the island with a local expert who can tell you all about the area’s history and marine life.
Huntington Beach State Park
Located between Myrtle Beach and Georgetown, Huntington Beach State Park offers historic sites, fishing, hiking, guided walks, and, of course, a three-mile beach. There are over 300 species of birds here, making the park a wonderland for birders. Visitors can also spot deer, sea turtles, and more. Plus, camping is available at the park for those who want to spend more time enjoying its natural beauty.
Surfside Beach
Also known as “The Family Beach”, Surfside Beach’s focus on families goes beyond its nickname—it identified itself as the first autism-friendly (自闭症友好) travel destination in the world in January 2016. Visitors can approach the sandy beach from 36 different entry points, some of which provide wheel chair access. There are also mini-golf courses and plenty of restaurants to choose from.
Fripp Island
Head for this small region for kayaking golfing, and breathtaking natural views. Watch some of the 175 species of birds that live along the ocean and salt marsh(沼泽), or other local animals such as alligators, dolphins, and loggerhead turtles. Book a place with a marsh view at Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort to enjoy pools, on-site dining, and the busy activity center.

When Gary Leung completely lost his eyesight nearly 15 years ago, it almost destroyed him. The Hong Kong native fell into hopelessness. Just at that time, he found long-distance running.
Now in his 50s, Leung has since completed the 100-kilometer Antarctic Ice Marathon, becoming the first blind person to do so. He even attempted the 400 km “Ultra Gobi”, thought to be one of the most challenging foot-races in the world. Recently, he is fresh off a 2,300 km charity run in Japan.
The Japanese “Dark Run 2023” was divided into 40 days, meaning Leung and his guide runners—connected by a string attachment—ran an average of more than 50 km per day. The run was aimed at raising money for young people with serious illnesses and showing them that all people have obstacles (障碍), but we must face them head-on and with bravery.
